Britta Westhausen studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, (now the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Design). Her work has been seen in numerous international group exhibitions including being selected for The Portrait Now at the National Historic Museum, Frederiksborg Castle, Denmark and for the Beijing International Art Biennale, China at the National Art Museum of China, 2012–19.

The portrait is of the artist’s son, Leslie, who works in the tea trade. It was made in her garden on a sunny day of which Westhausen recalls: ‘The light was remarkable bright and featured his personality as I see it. I had to paint his portrait.’
