Parmen Daushvili is a self-taught artist whose work has been seen in the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition. He was previously selected for inclusion in the BP Portrait Award in 2014 and 2019.

The portrait of the artist with his son, Andria, marks a difficult period in their life following Daushvili’s divorce from Andria’s mother. The domestic upheaval resulted in Daushvili and Andria living in temporary accommodation and facing financial hardship. Andria was dressed for school when it occurred to the artist that this might be the last chance to paint a large portrait. He says: ‘I am pointing at him because I am proud of him. The map of London signifies the city that gave us shelter in 2013.’
