Online Event

5.30-6.30pm Reading
6.30-7.00pm Q&A with artist Abigail Reynolds and Helen Lynch, WayWORD Creative Director

Much of Abigail Reynolds’ work is inspired by a deep love of books and libraries. For British Art Show 9 Reynolds has worked with a group of Aberdeen readers to create Elliptical Reading, a regular reading hour for readers to share short sections from favourite books, generating an unruly text collage which builds over time. Images of the readers’ hands have been embossed on new bindings for their chosen volumes, replacing the title. Visitors to Aberdeen Central Library can find the re-bound books which have been re-shelved by the readers in new locations, outside their usual categories.

This event is part of the WayWORD festival, a student-led programme of literary and cross-art events organised by the WORD Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen. For full programme details and to book your free ticket go to www.waywordfestival.com

British Art Show 9 continues at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Aberdeen Central Library until 10 October 2021. Admission free. To find out more about Abigail Reynolds’ work, watch the Elliptical Reading film, and download the map of library locations for the readers’ books at www.britishartshow9.co.uk

Presented in partnership with WayWORD festival and University of Aberdeen as part of a programme of activity to coincide with British Art Show 9 at Aberdeen Art Gallery.
