Your data: customer feedback

How we use your information

If you provide feedback to the Council, it’s your choice whether or not you want to leave your name and contact details, but we won’t be able to respond to your feedback if you don’t leave your name and a way to contact you. If you choose to leave your name and contact details, we don’t use your personal data for any other purpose than to respond to you about your feedback. We don’t share your data with anyone else.

If you actively sign up for us to contact you for your feedback on our services and provide your name and a way to contact you, we will only use your details for this purpose. You can change your mind at any time and let us know by emailing us at CustomerFeedback@aberdeencity.gov.uk 

How long we keep your information for

We keep customer feedback for the current year, plus two years, from the date that your feedback was received. If you’ve asked for a response from us, then we’ll keep your feedback for the current year, plus two years from the date of our response to you. We keep anonymised customer feedback for a longer period of time, so we can understand trends in the type and nature of feedback we receive and use this to improve our services (this means your data isn’t kept).

If you actively sign up for us to contact you for your feedback on our services, we will normally keep your details for the current year, plus two years.  If you change your mind at any time and decide you longer want us to contact you for feedback your can change your mind at any time. Let us know by emailing us at CustomerFeedback@aberdeencity.gov.uk, and we will delete your name from our list. 

Your rights

You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. See the Your data page for more information about all the rights you have, as well as the contact details for the Council’s Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think we haven’t handled your data properly.

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for your data we hold as part of receiving and responding to your feedback. The Council considers receiving and acting on customer feedback as part of its public task, in accordance with our best value duty to continuously improve. This means that we understand our legal basis for processing your data as Article 6(1)(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation.

We’ll only add you to our list of customers who are happy to be contacted for feedback if you actively sign up. This means we understand our legal basis for this as Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (your consent).
