A community hub has been established at Rosemount Community centre. This space has been created to welcome Ukrainian nationals to the city, and create a space to build new social connections, share information, offer English classes and try new activities. Open to all Ukrainian refugees and host families.

The UK Government has launched a 'Homes for Ukrainians' website, where those who wish to register as a host for Ukrainian nationals can do so. 

Please visit Homes for Ukrainians and Scottish Government Super Sponsor webpages for more information.

Aberdeen City Council is receiving information directly from these programmes confirming matches and requirements for safeguarding and accommodation checks.  Council officers will make direct contact with sponsors to progress these checks. 

There is no need to contact the Council to confirm matches and seek checks unless your guest has arrived in the city prior to checks having been completed.  If it is the situation that your guest has arrived and checks are not in place then please report this by email to: ResettlementEnquiries@aberdeencity.gov.uk

The Scottish Government have now published guidance for those providing accommodation under the Scottish Super Sponsor Scheme: Ukraine Super Sponsor Scheme: guidance for hosts 

This guidance is aimed primarily at hosts using Scotland’s Super Sponsor scheme, but it does set out the expectations and requirements of hosting a displaced person from Ukraine in Scotland for individual/private sponsors under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.

An allocated Resettlement Worker can provide advice to hosts. Queries can be directed to the email resttlementenquiries@aberdeencity.gov.uk

Ukraine Refugees

Qualifying criteria

Any person who was residing in Ukraine immediately before 1 January 2022, left Ukraine in connection with the Russian invasion which took place on 24 February 2022 and who has either been granted leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom, or has a right of abode in the United Kingdom.

This means that we bill your household as if you were not living there. If you live alone you will not have to pay council tax.

How to apply

Please email evidence of Visa or Home Office paperwork confirming you have been granted leave to enter or remain or have a right of abode in the UK from Ukraine to counciltax@aberdeencity.gov.uk

Provide details of the address you have moved in to and the date you moved into the property.

Health needs assessment form

The Primary Care and Resettlement Team from Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership would like to invite all refugees to participate in completing our Health Needs Assessment form so that all refugee health needs are met and directed to the right people/departments.  We will also assist with getting refugees registered with a GP practice if required.

Our team will support refugees to complete the health needs assessment form and provide relevant information.   This can be completed with interpreters and appointments can be either face-to-face or over the telephone.  We want to ensure that all refugees are informed of the services that can be provided by NHS Grampian Right Care Right Place.

What is the Integrated Alcohol Service?

The Integrated Alcohol Service offers help, support and treatment to individuals, who have problems relating to alcohol use and dependence.

Our aim is to assist you to stabilise your alcohol use, whilst offering help to enable you to tackle issues in your life that are being affected by your alcohol use.

The teams consists of:

  • Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Other Medical Staff.
  • Substance Misuse Nurses.
  • Social Work Staff.

What does the service do?

We aim to provide a service in line wiht National Quality Standards for substance misuse services.  You will be given a copy of these standards as part of your care.

 

  • Assessment for appropriate treatment and support such as mental health assessments, residential or community detoxification and rehabilitation with aftercare.
  • Help to minimise harm related to alcohol misuse.
  • Help to understand the risks of alcohol misuse.
  • Help to improve overall health and wellbeing.
  • Assistance for you in withdrawing from alcohol safely.
  • Help you make and maintain positive lifestyle changes.
  • Advice on benefits, housing, employment, debt and training.

What will happen at my appointment?

An assessment will be carried out jointly by health and social work staff.  During your assessment we may ask about things like: your current and past history of alcohol misuse, your family situation, any physical, social or mental health problems you may have; what steps you have taken to help yourself, your circumstances, expectations and needs.

After this, we will draw up a personal care plan with you and agree on your treatment and support your recovery.  Your Care Plan will be reviewed regularly by yourself and the team.

Free bus travel for young people

 

Free bus travel is available to children and young people aged 5 – 21yrs. If the young person is under 16yrs, the parent/carer must apply for the card on behalf of the young person. Staff in Aberdeen libraries can support Ukrainian families to apply for Young Scot National Entitlement Cards to get their young people free bus travel. You can find your local library and the main library in Aberdeen is Central Library on Rosemount Viaduct (near His Majesty's Theatre).

 

Process

Step 1 Register for a MyGovScot account. If the young person is under 16yrs, then it is the parent who must register for the MyGovScot account.

Step 2 Apply for the young persons’ free bus travel scheme at getyournec.scot. If under 16yrs, the parent must apply on behalf of their child. A separate application must be made for each child.

Step 3 ACL staff have been advised to submit the application reference number and copy of passport to the National Entitlement Card online. The form is at www.entitlementcard.org.uk/contact .

 

Required documentation

In addition to an accessible email account, applicants must have the following pieces of documentation with them: - Passport - *Proof of address - Birth certificate/proof of relationship if applying for under 16yrs - Digital passport photograph (the child/young person will need to be present) Digital copies of the above documents will need to be uploaded to the online applications.

*Anyone who has been housed will have the Aberdeen City Council Tenancy Agreement. For families still in hotels/hostels, we have been advised that they can still apply and they should contact of the Support Workers who will supply a digital copy of a letter from Aberdeen City Council confirming their residency.

App which provides books in Ukrainian

The Odilo Ukraine Unlimited learning app provides books in Ukrainian for both children and adults. Odilo is a free app which can be download from app stores. It is also available on desktops and laptops using https://ukraine.unlimitedlearning.io/

What you will need:

1) A device to use the app.

2) An email address to sign up for an account.
