Your date: Parental Involvement and Engagement Survey

Aberdeen City Council will collect this data to evaluate progress in achieving our aims of the Parental Involvement & Engagement Plan 2021- 2024. The Council will use the data to inform improvements and actions which relate to supporting, involving, and engaging parents/carers in their child’s learning, school improvement and reducing inequalities. The response data collected will be published in reports that share progress in keeping with the annual reporting of Aberdeen’s National Improvement Plan.

We do not need your name, address, or any other contact details as part of this consultation so you can respond anonymously. If you do identify yourself or your child in any of the responses to the questions we have asked, we will not use this information in our analysis. 

We also ask for additional information about you, such as your age group and gender. It is your choice as to whether you give us this information. 

Who we share information with

We share high-level statistical information with comparable local authorities to assess how well we are doing. No personal information will be included, and you will not be identifiable from the information.  

How long we keep your information for

We will keep this information for a maximum of five years from the date it was initially collected and will retain anonymous summary data for research purposes beyond this period.

Your rights

You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office. They are the body responsible for making sure organisations like the Council handle your data properly.  

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for this information. Whenever we process data, we need to have a legal basis in data protection law for doing so. The Council understands our legal basis for processing your data as being part of our public task because producing a strategy for parental involvement and engagement is part of our public task under the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.

In carrying out this function, the Council is also likely to process special categories of personal data. The Council understands our legal basis as being necessary for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes.
