How we use your information

Aberdeen City Council keeps a record of the information you provide (name, address and, optionally, email address) when you apply to become a member of Safer Aberdeen; retail scheme, pub watch, Unight, Best Bar None. Some or all of this information may be personal information. The information you give us will be shared with Police Scotland, Shopsafe Radio Link and other partners working with Safer Aberdeen on projects and initiatives. If you choose to provide your email address, we will use this to contact you to invite you to meetings and forums and to keep you informed, in the form of a monthly bulletin, of relevant events and initiatives related to Safer Aberdeen which may have an impact on you and your business.

How long we keep your information for

We will keep your information for as long as you remain a member of Safer Aberdeen. If you cancel your Safer Aberdeen membership, we will keep your information for 12 months from the date of cancelation.

Your rights

You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think we haven’t handled your data properly.

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for this information about you. Wherever the Council processes personal data, we need to make sure we have a legal basis for doing so in data protection law. The Council understands our legal basis for processing personal data in relation to your membership with Safer Aberdeen as Article 6(1)e of the General Data Protection Regulation. This means it is part of our public task of improving the well-being of people in Aberdeen under the Local Government in Scotland Act 2003.
