Your data: registering your Daycare service with the Family Information Service (FIS)

How we use your information

Aberdeen City Council’s Family Information Service (FIS) provides free, comprehensive and up-to-date information and advice about all services for children, young people and their families in Aberdeen. We collect information about your service in order to add you to the FIS pages on the Aberdeen City Council website.

Enquirers will be able to view your information on the website and we will share your information with them request via phone or email. You can update or remove your information at any time by emailing fis@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

From time to time the Council may wish to send you information that we think will be of use to you as a Registered Day Care service. This may include information or training or funding opportunities.

To support the delivery of the Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years (Bookbug) programme, FIS will share your details with Aberdeen city Libraries for the purpose of ensuring delivery of Bookbug Explorer and primary 1 bags and for no other purpose.

How long we keep your information for

We will keep your personal details for a period up to 6 months upon receiving a request that you no longer wish to have your details kept with the Family Information Service. We will keep an anonymised record of your service for statistical purposes for 5 years. Statistical information will be used to ensure that we are delivering the right services to meet the needs of children and families and to identify any gaps or issues in service delivery throughout the City.

Your rights

You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. See more information about all the right you have and how they work in practice, as well as contact details for the Council’s Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you think we haven’t handled your data properly.

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for this information. Whenever we process your data, we need to have a legal basis for doing so in data protection law. The Council understands our legal basis for processing your data as being part of our public task.
