How we use your data

We request enquiries from journalists are submitted to the External Communications team by email. We may also correspond with you by telephone.

Aberdeen City Council collects and retains your data, including email address and contact details, in order to maintain our records and to respond to your media enquiry.

Information provided to us will be shared with relevant Council services to enable a response to be provided to your enquiry.

How long we keep your information for

We will retain records relating to media enquiries for a period of up to five years.

Your rights

You’ve got legal rights about the way the Council handles and uses your data, which include the right to ask for a copy of it. You can email the Council’s Data Protection Officer on DataProtectionOfficer@aberdeencity.gov.uk or write to:

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for your information. Wherever we process personal information we need to make sure that we have a legal basis in data protection law. The Council understands our legal basis for processing personal data for media enquiries to be part of our public task as a local authority (Article 6(1)(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation).
