Your data: Family Learning Service

How we use your data

We ask for information as part of the request for assistance so that Aberdeen City Council’s Family Learning Team can work with you to support your child/children’s learning and development.

While you are receiving support from the team we will keep a case file about the opportunities you are involved with and the contact you have with the team. We will also keep a record that you have received this support from the team on our performance, improvement and evaluation system.

Your information will be treated confidentially within the Family Learning Team, and will not normally be shared, though you should be aware that there are some limited circumstances where information may be shared with others, particularly to prevent risk of harm to you or others. We have an agreement with Police Scotland, NHS Grampian, Moray Council and Aberdeenshire Council which governs how we share data with these partners.

How long we’ll keep your information for

We will keep the information in your case files for 2 years from last date of contact with the service. The record on our performance, improvement and evaluation system will be kept for 5 years from last date of contact with the service for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Our legal basis

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for this information about you. Wherever the Council processes personal data, we need to make sure we have a legal basis for doing so in data protection law. The Council understands our legal basis for processing personal data in relation to Family Learning as Article 6(1)(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation. This is because providing the Family Learning Service is part of our public task, under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 and The Requirements for Community Learning and Development (Scotland) Regulations 2013. In providing this service, the Council is also likely to process special categories of personal data. The Council understands our legal basis for doing so as Article 9(2)(h) of the General Data Protection Regulation, because it is substantially in the public interest to do so.
