Bookbug Week in Scotland

Bookbug's Big Splash

Monday 17 May - Saturday 23 May 2021

This year’s theme is Bookbug’s Big Splash, so we are encouraging families and those who work with 0-7 year olds to have some fun with water!

Bookbug Online Videos

There will be an exciting programme of splash-themed videos shown on our Facebook page and YouTube channel, involving partners such as Aberdeen Science Centre, the Duthie Park Rangers, and PlayTalkRead, each showing a different way to have fun with water both in and out-doors. A different video will be premiered each day between Monday 17 and Saturday 23 May at 10am, and available to view for up to two months afterwards.

Techfest Bookbig's Big Splash Activities

The fantastic team at Techfest have put together a fun activity PDF pack that you can download and try out some of their water-themed experiments and activities during Bookbug Week.

Bookbug's Big Splash Colouring Competition

We would like you to give Bookbug an outfit for splashing in – it could be welly boots and raincoat, a swimsuit, or something even more imaginative!

Download the template below, on to which entrants aged 0-7 years can add Bookbug’s splashing outfit using colouring, paint or collage.

Photographs of entries may be submitted to Bookbug@aberdeencity.gov.uk (with entrant information within the email text), and completed paper copies can be posted FAO Ruth Taggart to Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct OR handed in to one of the following libraries: Central, Airyhall, Bridge of Don, Cove, Culter, Dyce, Mastrick and Tillydrone libraries.

Please note that libraries are re-opening with a social distancing policy which includes a cap on visitor numbers, so do not bring groups of children to the library to submit entries at this time.

The deadline for submitting an entry is Saturday 29 May, and winners will be announced shortly thereafter.
