Creative Funding

The Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding programme offers the opportunity for cultural organisations with not for profit status, community groups, charities and individual artists or creatives to apply for funding to support or develop and/or deliver creative activity in Aberdeen.

This year March 2022-23, 22 organisations and 10 individuals have received funding for a wide range of projects.

The Film

The film maker would be expected to film and capture 10 of these new projects that have been awarded funding through this programme, to showcase the quality of the projects and different art forms, visual art, dance, theatre, sound and music. Also, to interview people from 2 of the organisations that have been awarded funding and 2 of their participants to show impact. There will also be a requirement to add titles, short phrases and sound to the film.

These projects are all in Aberdeen and developing at different times and include a mixture of creative engagement opportunities through workshops, exhibitions, performances, festivals and developing new creative spaces.

Projects such as:

  • Lighting and sound workshops for participants who have disabilities including CPD for teachers. (From a filming perspective this would be in a darkened space with objects lit by movement).
  • Written Word Festival fringe activity,
  • Shop venue for creatives and workshops.
  • Commissions for groups with protected characteristics.
  • Heritage exhibition in a city centre venue.
  • Development of a book of Doric prose.
  • Rap musician project
  • Two visual artists collaborating and showcasing their work in an exhibition.
  • Dance performance and workshop for individuals in a health unit in the city.
  • A writer creating new work

The role

The filmmaker will have creative film making skills, editing skills, time management and organisational skills.

The expectation would be that the filmmaker would liaise with the ACC Culture team, organisations and individuals to arrange a time to film the projects, that they would be flexible and undertake this work, within reason, at weekends, evenings, or when the projects are running between mid-October and March 2023.

The filmmaker has the ability to film 10 projects to create 2 films of 60 secs and 3-4 minutes in length, to highlight in each case, the artform, the aim of the project and scope of the project. The film is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023.
