Burials and cremations

In response to the latest government advice on the coronavirus, the Council has taken the difficult decision to close the chapels at Aberdeen Crematorium.

Cremations will continue and may be booked through the normal channels described below.

The Council will continue to monitor and review the situation, taking account of evolving government guidance. Updates on chapel re-openings will be announced when known.

With regard to burials and/or memorial facilities, initial enquiries to be made by telephone or email; 01224 522485 or e-mail burials@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Burial and cremation service

We offer a dignified, sensitive burial and cremation service.

Following the death of a loved one, most people ask a funeral director to arrange the funeral. Local funeral directors will be able to advise you on the services offered at our cemeteries and Aberdeen Crematorium.

You can also arrange a funeral yourself. See the Arranging a funeral page on mygov.scot for more information.

Burial lairs are available at Dyce, Newhills and Hazlehead Cemeteries. It is possible to reserve a burial lair for future use at Hazlehead and Newhills Cemeteries.

The Jewish and Muslim religions have burial sections in Grove and Hazlehead Cemeteries respectively.

See the Cemeteries and burial grounds page for more information.

There is a babies' section at Hazlehead Cemetery for the bereaved parents of stillborn or young babies. Please download the information sheet below to find out more:

Memorials for this section have been developed in consultation with SANDS. For more information about this, please see the Babies memorial facilities page.

Aberdeen Crematorium is situated in a tranquil woodland location off the B9119, Skene Road in the Hazlehead area about 4 miles west of the city centre.

See the Arranging a cremation page for more details about the services we offer at Aberdeen Crematorium.
