6.30pm – 10.30pm
Duthie Park, Polmuir Road, Aberdeen, AB11 7WA
Aberdeen City Council in partnership with BP and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, will stage a dramatic opera in Duthie Park with a live production of the classic Carmen as part of this summer’s BP Big Screen programme.
Carmen is the best-known work by French composer Georges Bizet, and one of the most famous operas.
The young soldier Don José intends to marry Micaëla, a girl from his home village. But when he meets the sensual and fiercely independent Carmen, he sacrifices everything to be with her. Carmen grows bored of Don José and falls in love with Escamillo. Unable to bear her leaving him, Don José tracks Carmen down and murders her.
This is a family friendly event, bring a picnic, make yourself comfortable (picnic rugs, deck chairs, etc.) and enjoy the night.
- BP Big Screens will be open with live music from Bon Accord Silver Band at 5.30pm
- Live screening will commence at 7pm with a pre show live-feed at 6.30pm
