Frequently Asked Questions - 2024 Rent Consultation

Any increase in rent would be implemented from 1st April 2025.

A service charge is for services provided to you that are not covered by the rent charge. Service charges are calculated separately and are therefore not subjected to the same increases.

Standard heating charges are calculated separately.

No action is required. Your Direct Debit will be automatically increased.

It is your responsibility to increase the amount of the Standing Order at your bank in time for the April 2025 payment. Failure to do so will likely result in you acquiring rent arrears.

You do not need to do anything as your Housing Benefit award will be automatically increased in line with any rent increase.

It is your responsibility to notify Universal Credit (DWP) that your rent has been increased. You should do this via your Universal Credit online journal. This change should be reported on 1st April 2025, or as soon as possible after the increase date. It cannot be reported before then. Failure to report the increase on time will likely result in you acquiring rent arrears.

Tenants and families on lower incomes can qualify for financial assistance with their rent. The Financial Inclusion Team can provide free and confidential advice around rent assistance schemes, as well as providing more general budgeting and money advice, including benefit health checks to ensure you and your family are receiving all the help you are entitled to.

No, these are fixed and will not increase.
