Unoccupied and furnished property discount (not a second home)
This 10% discount can be awarded, up to a maximum period of 12 months from the date the property became unoccupied, to a property which is unoccupied and furnished and is not a second home.
The property must be occupied for less than 25 days per year in order to qualify for this discount.
If the property remains unoccupied and furnished beyond 12 months, the discount will end and a 100% additional Council Tax charge will apply.
Please note that the 10% discount and 100% additional Council Tax charge does not apply to the water and waste water charges included on your Council Tax bill.
However, if the property is actively being marketed for sale or rent, a further period of up to 12 months of 10% discount can be awarded.
10% discount can therefore be awarded for a maximum period of 24 months provided the property is actively being marketed for sale or rent. After the property has remained unoccupied and furnished for 24 months in total, the discount will end and a 100% additional Council Tax charge will apply.
