Single Transferable Vote (STV) Explained
Scottish Local Government Elections use a form of proportional representation voting called the Single Transferable Vote system (STV). Voters select 1 or more candidates in order of their preference e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Candidates must obtain a quota – a minimum number of votes – to be elected. To make the counts quicker and more efficient, Scottish Local Government Elections have been counted electronically, single STV was introduced in 2007. Registration
To register to vote, apply for a postal vote or a proxy vote, please contact the Electoral Registration Office.

Polling stations
The polling place at which you are required to vote is printed on a poll card. You can find your polling place by using the ‘Find My Polling Station’ tool, below.
