Volunteers Week: the backbone of CFINE

Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), an Aberdeen-based charity and social enterprise support over 350 volunteers throughout the year. The volunteers are the backbone of the organisation helping run a food bank, community food pantries, and Community Food Outlets (CFOs), making up food parcels just to name a few.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak, CFINE volunteers have been providing vital support to the organisation at maintaining a contact-free emergency food delivery service. Over 100 volunteers help CFINE weekly to deliver essentials to food-insecure individuals and families across the city. CFINE could not operate without the dedication and commitment of those individuals who sacrifice their time. With the army of volunteers, CFINE works towards their fundamental goal - tackling poverty and building resilience in the North East, even during these uncertain times.

CFINE was honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2019 – the most prestigious award a voluntary group can receive therefore this week could not be a better time to continue our recognition for the tremendous work of the volunteers.
