The Union Street Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) training courses have been designed around the specific needs of traditional buildings in Aberdeen, addressing real issues and problems faced by building contractors, professionals and homeowners on a daily basis.
Led by Frew Conservation we have brought together a multi-disciplinary team of experienced and respected craftspeople and consultants to deliver this series of workshops and seminars.
Topics covered in 'Traditional Stonemasonry and Lime Mortars':
- Aberdeen’s granite-built heritage
- Stone quarry extraction to dressing, carving and building
- Lime mortars: types and classifications
- Specifying lime mortars
- Lime pointing, harling and limewash
- Identifying poor and defective work
Tutors: Andrew Bradley (Stonemason) & Craig Frew (Historic Buildings Consultant).
The full-day workshops are aimed at building contractors and professionals but may also be of interest to homeowners with some background knowledge or understanding of traditional buildings.
These courses are fully-funded through Union Street CARS. Lunch and refreshments are provided. Places are limited and must be booked in advance.
Courses are recognised by the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) for CPD
