Christmas festivities continue with Nativity scene blessing

Aberdeen’s Christmas programme will continue on Monday (28th November) when a blessing service for the nativity scene in St Nicholas Kirkyard will take place.

Reverend Gary Smith will welcome members of the public and local schools for the service on Monday at 10:30am, followed by a prayer from Reverend James Garnett.

Reverend Joe Ochei will follow with a reading, with Reverend Shuna Dicks delivering a festive message afterwards.

The blessing of the crib will be carried out by Cannon Terry Taggart and the benediction by Bishop Hugh Gilbert.

Aberdeen City Council Education Committee Convener Councillor Martin Greig will close the ceremony with a vote of thanks.

Councillor Martin Greig said: “It’s great to gather with the young people and sing Christmas carols around the nativity scene.

“This past year has been challenging for many and the Christmas period is a good time to look forward with a sense of hope. The wide range of activities offer some positive opportunities to celebrate with friends and families.”

Popular Christmas Carols such as O Little Town of Bethlehem and Away in a Manger will also feature.

The Nativity scene will be open daily, from dawn to dusk, until 5th January 2023.

The Christmas Crib Blessing Service is just one of many events happening this year over the festive period in Aberdeen. For more information visit our website.
