An appeal was today made for donations to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust and specific household goods to help Ukrainian people during their stay in Aberdeen.
Monetary donations are primarily being sought and the money will be used to distribute to local charities which are assisting in the humanitarian aid - people can donate through our Ukraine Crisis Appeal - JustGiving.
A total of £17,345 has been raised in the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust Ukraine Appeal so far through a mixture of public, industry and private donations.
Aberdeen City Council staff and partners are continuing to work alongside local volunteers to organise accommodation for families.
There are currently approximate 600 Ukrainian refugees in Aberdeen, most staying in four Welcome Hub hotels arranged by the Scottish Government, some in host accommodation, and a small number in City Council accommodation.
Specific items being sought to help people and ensure current safety regulations are met, new electrical goods and new/nearly new other items are being asked for. Items which are particularly sought include European plugs, televisions, large pans, microwaves, blankets, clothes horses, and medium sized hanging mirrors. Other items gratefully received include tea towels, kitchen bins, rugs, photo frames, irons, and ironing boards.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen David Cameron said: “There has been an overwhelming response from the charities, companies, organisations and residents of Aberdeen and we thank everyone for their help so far.
“We welcome the arrival of Ukrainian families and for those who can afford it and wish to help, a donation to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust is the easiest way to help as it enables items to be bought to directly help.
“We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and thank people for their continued support.”
Anyone wanting to donate the new or nearly new items from the lists should contact the Community Learning & Development Team during working hours, Monday to Friday, on 01224 291874. Outwith these hours, there will be the facility to leave a message and someone from the team will get back to you. Alternatively, people can email communities@aberdeencity.gov.uk
Suitable drop-off appointments would be arranged to maximise staff time and volunteer resources and due to the extremely tight timeframes and sensitive nature of the situation.
