B&B Fund Grant

The purpose of this fund is to provide hardship relief grants of £3,000 to B&B/small serviced accommodation providers who have not been able to access support through other schemes as a result of their banking status.  That is, this scheme is explicitly aimed at providing support to the business types mentioned above operating with only a personal or joint personal bank account (rather than a business bank account).

The scheme is aimed at ‘Small Serviced Accommodation’, which includes B&Bs and other establishments offering bed and breakfast services - Guest House, Farmhouse, Inn, Restaurant with Rooms. The key characteristics remain as use of personal bank account for trading, non-claim for other grants, bed and breakfast serviced accommodation provision.

  • This fund excludes other types of non-serviced accommodation providers such as self-catering, caravan accommodation and Air BnB.
  • Successful applicants will receive a one-off payment of £3,000.
  • Individuals must apply in the Local Authority area where the business is located.

Eligibility Checklist

In order to be considered you must self-declare the following is correct and can be evidenced by supporting documents.

  • Membership, accreditation, registration or simple listing with a recognised hospitality or tourism agency, representative body or marketing organisation (national or local) prior to March 2020
  • At Least 35% of  individual income is from affected business
  • Trading profits below £50,000 in financial year 2019-2020
  • Can provide evidence of active trading up to March 2020 and intend to continue trading in the tax year 2020-21
  • Have been in business for at least a year and filed trading accounts for 2018-2019
  • Have lost or anticipate losing business this year due to coronavirus and are experiencing or anticipating financial hardship as a result; demonstrated via a personal cash-flow statement to the period end September 2020
  • Not in receipt of other COVID-19 related business grant support (e.g. not in receipt of Non-Domestic Rates -Covid Grant, Small Business Grant or Creative, Tourism and Hospitality Grants)
  • Do not receive working age benefit payments (Universal Credit, Statutory Sick Pay, Employment and Support Allowance, Job Seekers’ Allowance, Income Support) or have applied for but not yet started receiving Universal Credit or an advanced payment of Universal Credit
  • Have taken steps to limit costs and expenditure (for example through schemes such as VAT deferral and seeking a mortgage payment holiday) 
  • Do not have access to sufficient savings or other sources of income to meet basic needs 
  • The business operates within the local authority to whom you are submitting this application

Please note the funding criteria is set by the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council can only administer the funding and has no desecration to make exception or changes to the rules of the criteria to make an award if you do not qualify.

Trading name is optional, but should be completed if a trading name features on any of the supporting documents provided.

Bank account for grant payment must be in the name of the applicant. If this is a different account from the bank account provided as supporting evidence (below) a copy of the most recent statement for the grant recipient account.

Applicants must upload images or digital copies of the following:

MANDATORY: Photographic proof of identity - valid passport or driving licence (including provisional driving licence).

MANDATORY: Proof of business address - a recent council tax bill, utility bill 

MANDATORY: business membership or affiliation

Membership, accreditation, registration or listing with a recognised hospitality or tourism agency, representative body or marketing organisation.  This could include VisitScotland, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Scottish B&B Association or a local tourism body (for example, Visit Aberdeenshire)

MANDATORY: Bank statements

(personal or joint personal) covering 3 months between April 2019 and March 2020 showing income and outgoings from bed and breakfast trading activity. 

MANDATORY: Cash Flow Personal Statement

Applicants must provide a personal statement of financial hardship that includes a forward look covering the period end March 2020 to end September 2020 (6 months).  This statement should include any projected loss of sales/revenue from business activity over the coming summer season (based on previous trading) and self-declaration this amounts to up to 50% of individual income. 

MANDATORY: Financial information including turnover figure from previous year

Trading accounts from 2018-2019; including turnover figure.

This should be accompanied by one of the following:

  • Evidence of trading, for example. A supplier or trade account (active). Or other evidence of recent business activity to support your claim (eg correspondence with customers or suppliers)
  • Valid business insurance
  • Current marketing materials for your business, eg business website, active social media – provide web links

You can digitally copy your documents in different ways. Remember, whatever way you copy them, be it a scan, photo or screenshot, we must be able to see all of the information in the uploaded document. Low quality images will not be accepted as evidence and you may be asked to resubmit or supply other supporting documents which will delay your application.

File Formats

Wherever possible please save your files in PDF format to ensure compatibility and accessibility for us to assess your evidence promptly. PNG, JPEG and BMP files are also acceptable – please note Word Doc. Are not acceptable. 

File Size 

Recommended file size is no more than 2mb per a file, please ensure if you need to compress the file size to meet the limit that it is still legible and clear to read once it is saved.

Scan

If you have a Windows PC or a Mac and a scanner, these devices usually come with software built-in.

If you do not have access to a scanner, you can upload documents using your phone. All you have to do is use a scanning app for your device, such as the free Adobe Scan app. When you are using a scanning app on your phone please make sure that the image is clear so we can read the information.

Photo

Digital Camera or phone camera images are acceptable, please make sure the images are good quality, medium res and taken in a well-lit room. Images which are highly compressed or too dark are not acceptable.

We will review your application as soon as possible and will send you another email once the review is complete. As part of the process you may be contacted by email to provide further information in order for a decision to be made. 

3-5 Working day once you have received your notification email to say your application has been approved. 

The target is for a 10 days turnaround from the point of you receiving your email notification the application is complete. This is dependent on all uploaded evidence being correct, legible and verified.
