Improving Children's Futures
Thursday 23 November 2023, 9.30am-1.00pm

Multi Agency Training

Join us for this introduction on how to ensure we have a Rights Respecting approach to our children in conflict with the law. This session is delivered by Donna Simpson, Children's Rights Officer, Forrest Templeton, Children’s Rights Officer and Julia Milne, WSA Coordinator.

Children in conflict with the law are often the most vulnerable in our communities and most at risk of not having their rights met. In this session you will receive an overview of key points in justice systems that children may encounter, associated rights to consider and how to ensure that children’s rights are upheld at all stages.

Making use of practice examples we explore what participation means for children in conflict with the law while exploring models of participation and some golden rules for effective participation.

Aims of the session include:

- Increase understanding of UNCRC and its implications in practice

- Increased awareness of articles to consider at key points for a child involved in justice systems

- Understanding of participation models and examples of participation work on going in the city

- Voice and View of the child, how can you ensure this is captured, responded to and shared appropriately
