How we use your information
Aberdeen City Council, as the Planning Authority for the city of Aberdeen, is required to prepare and maintain a list of persons who have registered interest in acquiring land for self-build housing across the authority area. The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 (section 16E) requires the Planning Authority to publish the list in such a manner that the Planning Authority considers appropriate.
The published list will contain your name, location required, what type of plot you are interested in, number of plots required, house type, when you intend to start building. This information will be available on the Council’s website.
By signing up, you will help us find out more about the demand for self-build plots across Aberdeen, where people would like their plot to be and the type of house that they would like to build.
We will use the information to develop planning and housing policy and guidance for Aberdeen. Registering interest does not form an obligation for the Council to find or offer land for such purposes. To ensure the information is up to date, the list will be updated every 2 years, after which time the Council will contact those on the list to check if they wish to remain on it, or alter any details held.
Should anyone wish their details to be removed at any other point (ie no longer requiring a self-build plot), they should contact the Local Development Plan team via LDP@aberdeencity.gov.uk request this.
How long we keep your information
Aberdeen City Council will only keep your personal data until the emerging Local Development Plan is itself replaced – this is likely to be around 5 years following its adoption in 2028. Following this, personal data will be disposed of securely.
Your rights
You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. See more information about all of the rights you have and how they work in practice, as well as contact details for the Council’s Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you think we have not handled your data properly.
Our legal basis
Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for your information. Wherever we process personal data we must have a legal basis in data protection law for doing so. The Council’s legal basis for this processing is that it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of the official authority vested in the Council.
In doing so, we are also likely to process special categories of personal data about you. The Council’s legal basis for doing so is that it is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.
