Your data: low-cost home ownership new build applications

How we use your information

Aberdeen City Council will use the personal information you provide in your application for low-cost home ownership for the purposes of processing your application, and not for any other purpose.

Aberdeen City Council will share your name, address, email and phone number with the selling agent of the low-cost home ownership development for the purposes of processing your low-cost home ownership application.

How long we keep your information for

Financial information including payslips, bank statements, benefits statements and any other supplementary documentation will be used to verify the income stated on your application form and will then be securely destroyed within one month of receipt. Application forms will be securely destroyed one year after the sale of the properties within the low-cost home ownership scheme.

If you purchase a low-cost home ownership property, your name will be held in a secure database against the property you purchase for as long as you own it after which we will remove your personal data from the database.

Your rights

You’ve got legal rights about the way the council handles and uses your data, which include the right to ask for a copy of it, and to ask us to stop doing something with your data. Please email the Council’s Data Protection Officer on DataProtectionOfficer@aberdeencity.gov.uk or write to:

You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office. They are the body responsible for making sure organisations like the Council handle your data lawfully.

Our legal basis

Wherever Aberdeen City Council processes your data we need to tell you what our legal basis in Data Protection law for doing so. The Council understands our legal basis for processing your data as Article 6(1)(e) of the General Data Protection Regulation, because providing low-cost home ownership is part of our public task, as a local authority. This is because the Council has the power to provide a low-cost home ownership under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, Sections 15-20 (A).
