Your Data: Gaelic Medium Education Survey

How we use your information

Gaelic Medium Education is available to all children and can be accessed through a placing request to the primary or secondary unit. This survey will assess the use of the Scottish Gaelic language in Aberdeen City. It will also allow us to collect data which will paint a picture of community-wide trends in Gaelic language attitudes. Your participation and your responses will contribute to planning in education provision in Aberdeen City.

Who we share information with 

Statistical information will be shared with Councillors, through relevant Committees, the Education Service to allow for future planning, and parents through

Education Newsletters. You will not be identifiable from this information.

How long we keep your information for 

We will keep this information for a maximum of five years from the date it was initially collected and will retain anonymous summary data for research purposes beyond this period. 

Your rights 

You have rights in relation to your data, including the right to ask for a copy of it. You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office. They are the body responsible for making sure organisations like the Council handle your data properly.   

Our legal basis 

Aberdeen City Council is the Data Controller for this information. Whenever we process data, we need to have a legal basis in data protection law for doing so. The Council understands our legal basis for processing your data as being necessary for compliance with a legal obligation under the Education (Scotland) Act 2016.

In carrying out this function, the Council is also likely to process special categories of personal data. The Council understands our legal basis as being necessary for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes.
