Museums and galleries

Aberdeen's art gallery and museums are popular visitor attractions which provide showcase for the city's treasures and bring its rich history to life.

  • Aberdeen Art Gallery is currently closed for redevelopment.
The gallery houses an important fine art collection with particularly good examples of 19th, 20th and 21st Century works, a rich and diverse applied art collection, and an exciting programme of special exhibitions.
  • Aberdeen Maritime Museum brings the history of the North Sea to life. View displays and exhibitions on the offshore oil industry, shipbuilding, fishing and clipper ships.
  • Provost Skene's House, which dates from 1545, is currently being redeveloped as a new visitor attraction under the City Centre Masterplan. It will tell the story of local people from the fields of art, science, sport and business who transformed the wider world.
  • The Tolbooth Museum features displays of crime and punishment, local history and archaeology.
