Temporary accommodation

Aberdeen City Council has a range of temporary accommodation available if you are:

  • awaiting a homelessness assessment decision
  • assessed as homeless or threatened with homelessness
  • awaiting a decision on a case review

We have over 300 temporary furnished flats including HMO rooms available around the city for homeless people.

We have Accommodation Units at West North Street and St Fitticks which provide accommodation in buildings that have shared facilities (cooking, bathrooms, sitting rooms, laundry, etc.). We also have to place some people in bed and breakfast establishments.

The Council will try to place you in temporary accommodation which is accessible to your work, school and family. However, given the pressures on the availability of appropriate accommodation this may not always be possible.

Support Officers are available to customers in all of our temporary accommodation to provide support where needed and to help with moving to permanent accommodation.

If you need to speak to someone about your temporary accommodation please phone 01224 522488. We don’t offer a drop in service.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, you will be accommodated as one household.

The Council uses different types and sizes of temporary accommodation dispersed throughout the city. This includes accommodation units, bed and breakfast establishments, furnished flats and independent units with support. Residents are responsible for rent payments for the duration of their stay and may claim Housing Benefit if they are on a low income or unemployed. For those unsure how to claim benefits our advice staff are there to help. During this difficult time residents will be offered support whilst in temporary accommodation. The Council employs Support Officers to provide support in temporary accommodation and to help with moving on.

If we have reason to believe that you are homeless, we have an interim duty to secure accommodation for you until we have reached a final decision on your application. This duty continues during the process of review if one is requested.
