Report an out of control dog

All dog owners have a responsibility to ensure that their dogs be kept under proper control at all times, even in their own home and garden. Dog owners require to ensure that their dogs do not cause fear, alarm or attack other dogs, animals or people.

The Dog Wardens can issue owners with a Dog Control Notice (DCN), requiring them to take action to improve their dog's behaviour.

If you have concerns about a dog's behaviour and consider it to act in an aggressive manner or experience fear or alarm by a dog, you may report this to our Dog Wardens. The Dog Wardens will investigate a report of an out of control dog within five working days.

You can report an out of control dog online or by contacting the Environmental Health service.

If you have been bitten or attacked by a dog, or if a dog has shown aggressive behaviour towards you, phone 101 to report this to Police Scotland. Give the police as much information as you can about the dog, incident and its owner.

The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 makes it a criminal offence to own the following types of dog: Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero.
