“The Council has a vision for the Aberdeen City Region to become a world-class energy hub blazing a trail with a replicable model for a low and zero carbon economy at the forefront of hydrogen technology in Europe. We’re proud of the strong global and local partnerships that have developed and see the procurement of a Strategic Partner to support the development of the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub and the City’s Net Zero Vision as key to our continuing success.”
Aberdeen City Council Leader
For decades the Aberdeen City Region has led the global energy sector from the front and is now playing a pivotal role in the global energy transition. The region has a unique position in the global energy supply chain, an extraordinary portfolio of low and zero-carbon assets and capabilities, and various largescale infrastructure projects in the pipeline supporting the drive to net zero.
Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub concept
Aberdeen has a vision to be a world leading hydrogen City and develop Scotland’s first commercially scalable, investable, hydrogen production and distribution facility, making use of the region’s renewable resources to provide a truly ‘green’ fuel supply. By kick starting the growth of the hydrogen sector initially for transport, the Hub would scale over time to provide hydrogen for heat, industry and export.
Aberdeen City Council intends to enter into a joint venture arrangement or consortium opportunity with an investment and delivery partner(s) to bring forward the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub but also to realise the commercial opportunity that hydrogen could provide to the City as part of an energy transition for the Aberdeen supply chain and jobs.
