Current Stakeholder Engagements
New Secondary School Provision for Hazlehead/Countesswells/Kingswells Feasibility Study
The Council is currently carrying out a feasibility study, to identify potential options for new secondary school provision to serve the communities of Hazlehead, Countesswells and Kingswells, to meet future school capacity requirements for these communities and to provide high quality learning environments to support the needs of all pupils, staff and the wider communities. To help inform the outcomes of the feasibility study, we are inviting comments and feedback from pupils, parents, staff, community groups and all other stakeholders to understand your views in advance of any statutory consultation. The survey will close on October 9th and the feedback will then be collated and reported to the Education and Children’s Services Committee on 21 November 2023.
The survey can be completed online.
St Peter’s Future Provision – Old Aberdeen House Feasibility Study
The Council is carrying out a feasibility study over the next six weeks, to identify whether refurbishing and reconfiguring Old Aberdeen House could provide a two stream school for St Peter’s long term educational requirements. The Council agreed in September 2019 to relocate St Peter’s School to the existing Riverbank School building, after the new replacement Riverbank School has opened … subject to the condition of the Riverbank building first being improved to a category A status. To help inform the outcomes of the feasibility study, we are inviting comments and feedback from pupils, parents, staff, community groups and all other stakeholders. The survey will close on October 9th and the feedback will then be collated and reported to the Education and Children’s Services Committee on 21 November 2023.
The survey can be completed online.

Northfield Primary Schools Feasibility Study
The Council carried out a feasibility study between March and June 2023, to identify potential options for reducing the number of primary schools in the Northfield Associated Schools Group (ASG). To help inform the outcomes of the feasibility study, comments and feedback were invited from pupils, parents, staff, community groups and all other stakeholders, on the options available, and the potential impact of these options on individual schools and communities.

A report was due to be presented to the Education and Children’s Services Committee on 12th September 2023, with recommendations on next steps.
However, in light of recent developments nationally concerning Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in school buildings, additional survey work has been undertaken on RAAC in our schools. A number of schools identified with RAAC are within the Northfield community.
When the full results of survey work are known, we will review each site / building and identify a programme of mitigation for any identified risk in each school. This may limit the use of some school spaces while remedial action is taken. As a result, it has been concluded that planning to reduce the excess capacity across the school estate at this time would be unhelpful, and the decision was taken not to present the report until we have a more detailed understanding of next steps.
The report has currently been delayed until the February 2024 meeting of the Education and Children’s Services Committee, this will provide time for us to study the findings of the survey on RAAC and consider how best to ensure that children and young people continue to access full time education while any remedial action necessary is undertaken.
