Informal engagement for proposed new secondary school to replace Kincorth and Torry Academies
Aberdeen City Council has been reviewing its Education, Culture and Sport Estate and has established clear priorities to effectively manage the School Estate, in line with Scottish Government guidance.
One outcome of the Secondary School Estate Review, approved by Education, Culture and Sport Committee on October 2010, was to instruct officers to fully develop the following proposal as soon as practicable:
- To replace Torry Academy and Kincorth Academy with one single larger school on an appropriate site to accommodate all existing secondary pupils and any pupils generated by the development proposed at Loirston.
The first stage of this process is to identify a site for the proposed new school. Informal Engagement on possible sites will run from Monday 14 January until Friday 28 March. Please note that, in response to community requests, the period of engagement has been extended.
Initial Site Appraisals have been carried out and the findings are published in the Site Appraisals Document.

What happens next?
It is important to emphasise that the decision on the preferred site will be taken by the Education, Culture and Sport Committee.
The information within this Site Appraisal Document will be included in a Report to Committee, along with stakeholder views submitted to the Council during the informal engagement period.
The Education, Culture and Sport Committee Meeting on 28 March 2013 will include an agenda item on the preferred site for the proposed new school to replace Kincorth and Torry Academies.
Once a decision on the preferred site is made, Committee may instruct officers to carry out statutory consultation on the formal proposal to close Kincorth and Torry Academies and create a new school on the preferred site.
Only after the outcome of that statutory consultation is considered at a future meeting of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee can any final decision on the formal proposal be made.
