Qualifying criteria from 1st April 2023
- The property is the sole or main residence of at least one person who holds permission to enter or stay in the United Kingdom granted under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, and
- The property is being made available by an approved sponsor under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, and you are being provided the accommodation without paying rent in return, and
- You were residing in Ukraine immediately before 1 January 2022 and left Ukraine in connection with the Russian invasion which took place on 24 February 2022.
This means that if you meet the above qualifying criteria, we will bill your household as if you were not living there or if you live alone you will not have to pay Council Tax. From 1st April 2023, if you do not meet the above criteria you will be liable to pay Council Tax.
How to apply
Please email evidence of your Visa and Home Office paperwork confirming you hold permission to enter or stay in the United Kingdom under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme to counciltax@aberdeencity.gov.uk
Please provide evidence that the property has been provided by an approved sponsor under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme and that you were residing in Ukraine immediately before 01.01.2022 and left Ukraine in connection with the Russian invasion.
Please also provide details of the address you have moved into and the date you moved into the property.
