Scottish Parliament Boundaries Review

Boundaries Scotland has completed its Second Review of Scottish Parliament Boundaries and sent its final recommendations to Scottish Ministers.

The report was submitted to the Minister for Parliamentary Business on 30 April 2025.

This review was carried out under the Scotland Act 1998. The Act requires the review to be finished by 1 May 2025, and future reviews to be carried out every 8 to 12 years. It also states that the Scottish Parliament will have 73 constituencies and 8 regions.

Scottish Ministers now need to present their findings and a draft Order in Council to the Scottish Government for their approval. If approved, the new constituencies and regions will be used in the next scheduled election on 7 May 2026.

One of the final recommendations is a name change for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine. It is recommended to become ‘Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine’.

The final recommendations make no changes to the boundaries of Aberdeen Donside, Aberdeen Central and Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine.  There are some changes to boundaries recommended for other constituencies within the North East Scotland Region.

More details about the Second Review, including maps of the proposed constituencies and regions, are available on the Commission’s website: www.boundaries.scot.
