Frequently Asked Questions

Any Aberdeen resident wishing to bring household waste using a larger vehicle or bring paint or chemicals. Bookings must be made in advance.

Please see below for information on larger vehicles. Before arrival please read the full guidance.

Only residents of Aberdeen may use the sites.

Commercial waste is not permitted at any time.

No, use of the Household Waste & Recycling Centres is free for all residents of Aberdeen to deposit their household waste.

Larger vehicles that require an appointment include;

  • Transit-type vans
  • Cars with trailers
  • People carriers above 7 seater capacity
  • Pick up trucks
  • Vans with a capacity above 4 cubic metres

Larger vehicles generally need more time to unload waste which can result in a queue building up. As the sites are currently operating at a slower pace than normal due to Covid measures, we need to manage access and traffic. Introducing a booking system enables access for larger vehicles in a controlled manner whilst helping to manage the flow of traffic through the site.

Due to the nature of these materials they require to be controlled and deposited with supervision. The current Covid restrictions mean that the sites are operating differently to usual and staff have additional responsibilities therefore a booking system allows them to be able to better manage delivery of these safely.

Anyone arriving in a larger vehicle, or bringing paint and chemicals, will need to book an appointment. Bookings must be made in advance and are only available to Aberdeen city residents. Upon arrival, you will need to show proof of address (i.e. council tax bill, utility bill, bank statement), your booking reference number and hire vehicle documentation if applicable.

Yes, if the site is busy and there are already vehicles waiting when you arrive If a queue causes you to be later than your allocated slot you will still be allowed access.  We recommend that you arrive as close to your booking time as possible.

Yes, please enter “HIREVAN” into the booking system when it asks for your vehicle registration number. When you arrive at the HWRC, you will need to show paperwork for the hire vehicle as well as proof of address and your booking reference number.

If your vehicle has more than 7 seats, you will need to book.

Yes, you can bring a van plus a trailer.

No. None of the HWRCs in Aberdeen are licensed to take commercial waste. Please use a licensed waste management company to dispose of your waste or contact our Trade Waste Team to arrange a trade waste collection service

We are not currently planning to introduce a booking system for all site users, however, the booking system will be kept under review.

Our booking system is online. If you require dedicated support from us to make an appointment online, you can phone our Customer Contact Centre on 03000 200 292 and we can provide guidance over the telephone.

We recognise that circumstances change and you may not be able to make your appointment, we don’t have a cancellation form so when you decide on a more suitable day and time please book a new appointment.
