The Promise report states
"For years, pre-dating the Care Review, care experienced children and adults have said language needs to change to normalise their lives and shift away from professional speak. The language of care is stigmatising for children.
Scotland must not use terms like ‘placement’ and ‘contact’ to talk about a child’s home and spending time with their family. Professionalised language for some members of the workforce helps them to detach in order to deal with what can be emotionally difficult work.
Rather than detach, the workforce must be encouraged not to step back but to step in.
For children, unintentional use of professionalised language compounds a sense of them being different, and they told the Care Review it can feel belittling and have an impact on their sense of self."

Write Right About Me - Aberdeen’s multi-agency writing project has developed a suite of reflective e-learning resource modules that puts children’s rights, voice and participation central to writing differently. These resources will help us as good (corporate) parents reflect in our writing, care and love for our children, young people and families. It will support us to demonstrate our understanding of trauma that can affect people throughout their lives. This is integral to us #keepingthepromise to care experienced people; and to respond to what our children and young people said locally about the using the natural language of families to reduce the professionalisation of children’s lives when they need our help.
These resources respond to what our children and young people said recently about being listened to in the Bright Spots survey. It will also support the key principals of our Bairn’s Hoose so our children and young people are not retraumatised by the way we write about their needs and our support to them.
