Praise for Bon Accord Care staff

Excellent standards of care which make a difference and supported through early intervention and preventative measures have been achieved by Bon Accord Care, an annual report said.

The praise for Bon Accord Care staff came in an annual report which highlighted the positive impact of Arm’s Length External Organisations (ALEOs) on the city’s health, culture and sports.

The Finance and Resources Committee approved a report on Wednesday 5 November 2025 which detailed work carried out by Bon Accord Care which includes services such as care at home, housing support, residential care homes, rehabilitation, reablement, occupational therapy, SVQs through learning and development, community equipment, telecare, day care, responder, respite, and community meals.

Council Co-Leader Councillor Christian Allard said:  “Bon Accord Care staff make a real difference for people across Aberdeen. It is good to see the praise for Bon Accord Care and particularly its staff who provide so much necessary care for people all over our city.”

Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: ““Bon Accord Care provides an important role across the city by delivering support tailored to individual needs. It is reassuring to see these positive contributions reflected in the report.”

Bon Accord Care Managing Director Dr Louise Henderson said: “This report highlights the phenomenal job that our staff do day-in-day-out when supporting citizens across Aberdeen. Together with people we support, their families, and wider partners, we strive to make a difference across our local communities at a time where the sector faces many challenges. I am delighted that council leaders have offered their recognition of our contribution to health and wellbeing in the city. I would like to add a note of personal thanks to all staff for their respectful integrity, teamwork, and for the accountability that they demonstrate in their support for others.”

The report to committee said through an integrated approach to the organisation’s service provision, Bon Accord Care staff are making a difference to the citizens of Aberdeen.

Highlights aligned to the organisation’s strategic aims include:

Caring:

  • Successfully delivered patient-centred care models that have improved patient satisfaction by 20%;
  • Worked in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership to explore new models of Housing for Varying Needs across Aberdeen’s sheltered housing portfolio.

Enabling Independence:

  • Expanded rehabilitation and reablement services, resulting in a 15% increase in the number of individuals regaining independence;
  • Introduced new assistive technologies that have enhanced the quality of life for 1,200 service users.

Workforce:

  • Developed and implemented a comprehensive recruitment strategy, leading to an increase in staff retention rates;
  • Launched a series of professional development programs, with more than 900 staff members participating in training and upskilling initiatives.

Healthy Lives:

  • Rolled out a series of health and wellness campaigns that reached community members, promoting healthy lifestyles and preventative care;
  • Partnered with local organisations to provide mental health support services.
