Make a difference to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums. Share your ideas, experiences and contribute to the arts, heritage and archaeology.

A museum background is not required for you to become a volunteer or to attain a temporary and/or unpaid work placement. However, you must have an open mind and be willing to try new things. Also, you must be very interested in the work of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums and Heritage.

Spaces are limited, so, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee to find you a placement. However, we will try our best to provide an opportunity for you.

Opportunities span a wide range of services within Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, with options for front-facing and back-of-house work. Here are some of the things you can expect:

  • Supporting daytime and/or evening events
  • Working alongside artist-practitioners to guide workshops, art & craft challenges and more
  • Guiding tour groups at any of our venues
  • Supporting collections through database-work, knowledge-building research, collections handling

Active volunteers will also be invited to seasonal socials, and have options to join training. All volunteers, prospective and active, will receive a monthly newsletter with staff, collections and volunteer updates across the service.
