Fees and Allowances
Aberdeen City Council have a payment structure in recognition of not only the skills that applicants can bring to the role of fostering but also how they develop those skills throughout their fostering carer.
Payment for Skills
All per annum and effective from 3rd April 2023

These payments are made on the basis of one fee per household. These rates are reviewed on an annual basis.
Payment Scales for Fostering Allowance Payment for Children
Our foster carers also receive an allowance detailed below. These take into account the general expenditure relating to caring for a child. The Scottish Government and COSLA agreed the 16 core items that the allowance must cover -
- Food
- Toiletries
- Clothes
- Wear and Tear
- Hobbies and Activities
- Bedding
- Furniture
- Pocket Money
- Toys
- Insurance and Utility Bill Increases
- Daily access to a computer and the internet for homework/course work
- Transport costs for the child (for the purpose of attending review meetings, children’s hearings, contact, travel to school, college (or other educational facility)
- Mobile phone
- Holiday costs to cover school holiday activities and family trips
- Birthday
Christmas or other cultural or religious events

Payments for both are made on a fortnightly basis and two weeks in arrears.
These payments are usually reviewed on an annual basis.
Where a child is in placement the following equivalent allowances are also paid:
- Summer holidays two weeks.
- Christmas/Religious festival – 1 week.
- Birthday allowance – 1 week.
