Underage sales

Some products can only be sold to persons of a certain age. This means they are "age- restricted" and should not be sold to underage persons.
Trading Standards has a duty to enforce the law relating to several age-restricted products. These include the supply of:  

We work to ensure that traders have procedures and resources in place to prevent sales to underage children. 

For retailers, we have produced an Underage Sales Information book.  

Using volunteers, often between the ages of 16 and 17, we carry out test purchases of age-restricted products to ensure shops and businesses are complying with the law.

The Aberdeen Retailers’ Charter for the Responsible Sale of Tobacco and Vaping Products. The aim of the Charter is for officers to work with retailers to try and reduce the sale of tobacco and vaping products to children in the city.
