Here we are at the last of our concerts of music for the stage and this one catches everything with music from opera, ballet and theatre. From the drama of Verdi's La forza del destino to the rhythmic brashness of Borodin's Polovtsian Dances. Along the way, we can bring those wonderful Disney images of dancing hippos with Ponchielli's Dance of the Hours.
Everyone knows the Hall of the Mountain King and, perhaps Solveig’s Song but who is Peer Gynt? Seducing and cheating his way around the world, he finds and loses love. His is a journey from Norwegian fjords to Saharan Africa; from reality to fantasy, myth and folklore. Does he ever find happiness? Our wonderful narrator, Claire Bleasdale will tell you all.
