Day Letterpress Printmaking (6hr)

Letterpress is unique and different from standard printing formats that we are currently used to.

Utilising traditional printing craft and skills and using antique and vintage presses, students will be able to print their own posters, signs and other ephemera, all displaying the uniquely tactile qualities unique to Letterpress printing.

Day Pottery Wheel Throwing (6hr)

Whether you have always wanted to have a go or have experience and would just like the time to practice...here's your chance.

An opportunity to spend a whole day in the ceramics workshop at Gray's School of Art throwing at the potters wheel.

This course will teach students the fundamental techniques, hints and tips on how to throw the perfect pot.

Our experienced tutor will give demonstrations on clay preparation, centering, turning and finishing clay on the wheel.

Students will learn to prepare their own clay before spending time creating their pieces.

Creative Bookbinding (Foundation/6hr/EXTRA)

A day's introduction to creative bookbinding with an experienced tutor on hand.

An opportunity to explore texture, colour and materials to create and bind a personal journal or sketchbook with your own individual design.

Students will be given a brief introduction to various bindings, covers, tools and materials. Working mainly with recycled materials, students will then make 3 books using 3 basic binding techniques - pamphlet stitch, Japanese stab binding and buttonhole binding.

Experimental Machine Embroidery (Foundation/6hr/EXTRA)

A day's introduction to free machine and hand embroidery in the Dry Textile Workshop of Gray's School of Art.

Learn the basic and essential skills required to create experimental hand or machine embroidery in your own imaginative designs.

This course will enable you to explore the innovatve possibilities of using a sewing machine as a sketching tool.

This course will help you to gain confidence in using a sewing machine to practice free machine stitches. You will learn and practice:

• Straight
• Zig-zag
• Whip stitch

"TEMPESTUOUS PASSIONS! - Climatic Events in Baroque Music" with the Damaris Ensemble. Young virtuosos Paul and Louis Kowal on harpsichord, Rodolphe on viol da gamba, accompanying the beautiful mezzo-soprano voice of Virginie perform a selection of passionate airs and tempestuous music by the great 17th and 18th century composers.
