Multi Agency Child Protection and Disability Training

Protecting Children, Improving Children's Futures
Tuesday 16 May 2023, 1.00pm-4.30pm

Multi Agency Training

*This training is for professionals working in Aberdeen City*

During this multi agency training session we will define disability and break out into groups to discuss the question 'why are children with a disability at a higher risk of abuse?'. We will then cover important legislation and local guidance before moving on to discuss working with families and the importance of understanding different kinds of communication.

The aims of this training are:

  • To understand why disabled children and young people are at a greater risk of abuse/neglect than children without a disability.
  • Increase professionals confidence in communicating effectively with children and young people to ensure their needs are met and views are heard.
  • Increase professionals confidence in reporting and investigating child protection concerns where the child has a disability.

Social Workers Training Feedback: ‘The training has helped me to improve my communication skills. By establishing rapport and trust with the child and not only with the foster carers, I believe this might make the child feel comfortable enough to speak about potential abuse or neglect. The training will enable me to support foster carers with adequate resources and tools needed to safeguard children placed with them.’

This training will take place via MS Teams.
