Preventing Drug and Alcohol Related Deaths

Drug related deaths

Drug related deaths are increasing across all areas of Scotland including Aberdeen. Our overall strategy is to reduce the number of people using harmful substances in the long term. In the short term there are lots of immediate things that can be done to reduce the risk of someone dying.

Naloxone

What is Naloxone

Naloxone is a medication that quickly reverses the effects of an overdose from opioids. Opioids are drugs such as codeine, morphine, heroin, methadone or fentanyl. There are two types of naloxone available in Grampian. Prenoxad is given by injection into a big muscle such as the thigh. Nyxoid is sprayed up the nose.
