'Gaia' by Luke Jerram

Sculpture Court, Ground Floor
(admission during Spectra is to the ground floor only)

See our planet on an amazing scale, floating in three-dimensions above the Sculpture Court in Luke Jerram’s light installation 'Gaia' – the personification of the Earth in Greek mythology. 'Gaia' measures 7 metres in diameter and features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth's surface. It creates a sense of the Overview Effect, the feelings astronauts can experience of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for the environment. A specially-made surround sound composition by BAFTAaward-winning composer Dan Jones is played alongside the sculpture.

Created in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Bluedot Festival and The UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres. With supporting partners Culture Liverpool and Liverpool Cathedral.

SPECTRA is Scotland’s festival of light, delivered by Curated Place and commissioned by Aberdeen City Council. For details of the full programme, including the Catalyst conference on Friday 11 February go to www.spectrafestival.co.uk
