LUX Scotland at Aberdeen Art Gallery
Join artist, writer and art-worker Alison Scott and members of the LUX Scotland team for two writing workshops.
The workshops are an invitation to explore influences and desires for writing, the role of reader/viewership, responsive writing as a critical and creative practice, and experimental methods of editing. Approached through questions such as; How do we build our writing? What influences, forms and experiences is it made from? Where does our writing sit, how is it read? What do we want from it? Participants will take part in exercises for quickly generating new pieces of writing and introduce creative methods for editing.
Alison will introduce examples of her own and other artists’ work on and around moving-image which use writing and found text as critical and descriptive tools, opening out to a discussion of the forms of texts that surround and shape artworks.
There are eight workshop places available and we encourage participants to attend both sessions, where possible but this is not essential. The workshops are open to those with an interest in the role of writing and arts practice and we would expect that the group would include participants at an earlier stage in their careers who would value learning new methods and developing their writing in a supported space.
On booking, participants will be given further information to prepare for the workshop.
Please note that the workshop is for those who are no longer in full-time education.
This workshop is part of a wider professional development programme by LUX Scotland for early career Aberdeen-based artists and curators. The programme includes workshops, screening and discussion events and is supported by Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding.
