The Sandy Dunbar Studio Ceramics Collection
Explore the art and science of ceramics in this interactive display of over 180 items by artist-potters. The collection is a gift from the family of the late Alexander Arbuthnott Dunbar (1929-2012), which has been made on the understanding that each piece can be handled by visitors. Come and see, and feel, this remarkable collection of, in Sandy’s words, “pots that sing” - designs that were pleasing to his eye, felt good in his hands and brought him joy.
There are hands-on activities for younger visitors and pots of many shapes, sizes and finishes for visitors of all ages to pick up and enjoy. In the Seminar Room you can find out about the potters and their techniques in a selection of reference books.
This is just a small part of the entire collection. We welcome research visits at the Treasure Hub. Please get in touch using the ‘contact us’ form on our website, selecting ‘collections’ from the drop-down menu.
