Aberdeen Jazz Festival 2010

From 10 Mar 2010 To 14 Mar 2010

The sixth edition of the Aberdeen Jazz Festival, which takes place from March 10-14, continues to set the agenda on jazz - presenting the best international players, delving into the tradition and showcasing the superb Aberdonian jazz musicians.

The Festival presents three Scottish exclusives: A tenor sax celebration with American jazz giant Eric Alexander and top London player Dave O'Higgins; a one off UK show by the top European pianist Jacob Karlzon, and a rare UK visit for the astonishing trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz playing a hot late night session with Aberdeen's own tenor sax star Garry Gibbs.

Two concerts champion the history of the music - British saxophone star Alan Barnes joins Ken Mathieson Classic Jazz Orchestra to play the music of Benny Carter, whilst Colin Steele has formed a Scottish supergroup to play the music of Cannonball and Nat Adderley in a steaming, swinging repertoire reminiscent of the great Blue Note sessions.

Fresh from his Tune-Up tour, Aberdeen born Graeme Stephen presents his award winning Sextet which packed with top class musicians. The Festival dons dancing shoes as El Salson transport Aberdeen to Havana for a night of hot spicy latino rhythms as Aberdonian musicians led by Scott Annison join forces with TOP Venezuelan singer Lino Rocha and Cuban timbale maestro Eric Alfonso.

Musicians love the Aberdeen Jazz Festival and especially The Blue Lamp - one of the best venues in Britain for jazz. It's renowned for its intimate and informal atmosphere which always guarantees exceptional performances.

The 2010 Festival is a promotional collaboration between Assembly Direct and Jazz Aberdeen with support from the Scottish Arts Council, Jazz from Sweden and Aberdeen City Council. Neil Gibbons from Jazz Aberdeen said "we are delighted to bring another world class programme to Aberdeen, after a short sabbatical, we're excited to be back at The Blue Lamp and we're planning more Jazz Aberdeen shows. Of course, we're hoping to recreate the magical Blue Lamp atmosphere and hope that audiences are excited as we are at the prospect. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Fiona Alexander from Assembly Direct said "we are delighted to work with Jazz Aberdeen to present the 2010 edition of the Festival and to bring such exciting jazz to the doorstep of jazz audiences in Aberdeen.
