Aberdeen Burgh Court Roll - 700th Birthday Bash!

A free illustrated talk on Aberdeen's Burgh Court Roll, the oldest record of council business anywhere in Scotland, which celebrates its 700th anniversary this year.

Aberdeen's Burgh Court Roll of 1317, the oldest record of council business anywhere in Scotland, celebrates its 700th "birthday" this year. To mark the occasion, the City Archive is hosting a talk by Dr. Andrew Simpson, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Aberdeen, who has recently translated the document from the original Latin and who will speak about the content of this nationally important document.

The evening will be introduced by Phil Astley, City Archivist, with Dr. Jackson Armstrong, Lecturer in History, also providing a brief overview of the current collaborative project between the City Archive and the University of Aberdeen entitled "Law in the Aberdeen Council Registers, 1398-1511: Concepts, Practices, Geographies"

The Burgh Court Roll itself will be on display.
