Craiginches: Life in Aberdeen's Prison, a Q&A with author Bryan Glennie

On 12 Jul 2017

“When listening to some of the events told by Bryan in graphic detail it makes you wonder how the wardens got through their day.” – Sir Alex Ferguson CBE

Former prison officer Bryan Glennie spent much of his career within the imposing Victorian walls of Craiginches Prison. Having lived and breathed the life of the prison up to his retirement, his newly published account of the prison and prison life is fascinating and well informed.

Join Aberdeen Local Studies for a Q&A with Bryan to hear about the history of this forbidding place: including the prison’s only hanging, rooftop riots, botched escapes, drug smuggling and how prisoners tried to brew their own beer in a dung heap. Bryan will also discuss modern prison life and his involvement in work to rehabilitate inmates.
